    Ktenanta (Brazilian beauty).

Tropical rainforests of South America (Brazil and Costa Rica) - the birthplace of ktenant, herbaceous perennial plant of the family marantovyh. Ktenanta (or ktenante) is similar to the representatives of the two genera of the family - and Calathea stromantami. However, unlike them, have ktenanty entire, asymmetric, large, oval or oval-oblong leaves (like in a bun because of the short internodes), narrowed at the base.

    Ktenanta (Brazilian Beauty)

Ktenanata Oppenheim has painted silver and green upper side of leaves, petioles and a lower side of the leaf - the spectacular deep red color! A resident of the Brazilian tropics can reach (and up!) Meters in height and almost the same size as it is characterized by creeping stems.

Ktenanta compressed - more compact plant; decorate your room, it will not take nearly the living space, as it has a size of 20-40 cm. Leaves small, narrow, green, without spots. Ktenanata Lubbers reaches a height of 80 cm or more. Its light green leaves are covered with golden-yellow stripes of irregular shape. This species also has a compact design with light spots on the leaves. In general, commercially available ktenanty striking bright colors of leaves, which is the result of years of selection and breeding varieties.

Ktenanta - relatively shade tolerant plant. Although the optimal window for growing West, in the bright northern room, it will be a very good feel. But the contents of the plants in the southern room require shading from direct sunlight in spring and summer - chic color of leaves may become darker!

Ktenantu not stand on the balcony and terrace, as the plant prefers a flat, without the temperature drops - about 20 degrees, as well as year-round needs high humidity. Dry air leaves the Brazilian beauty curl, it loses its shape, and can "pick up" spider mites, scale insects and aphids.

Ktenantu fed throughout the year once in 7-10 days fertilizer for decorative foliage plants. This should be done either in the morning or in the evening, after 5 minutes of watering. Substrate for ktenanty must be loose and rich in nutrients. It will be very useful to add to the substrate during transplantation in April and May a bit of charcoal.

Ktenante, like other plants, useful warm shower that will wash away the dust and dirt, as well as possible pest leaves. Watering a plant should be regularly defended the boiled water - ktenanta sensitive to excess mineral salts in the substrate. Earth in the pot at ktenanty should not dry.

Remember: plant needs moisture and humidity, so useful frequent spraying ktenanty. If for some reason this is not acceptable to you, put a flower pot on a tray with wet expanded clay pebbles. You can use different settings for humidification - them on the market now very much. Ktenantu propagated by dividing the bush during transplantation, as well as rosettes of leaves that are easy to produce roots in water or sand at a temperature of 25 degrees (according to the journal "Flowers in the house")

Of course, ktenata requires additional concerns to improve the humidity, but it will pay for care with interest for its unique beauty and large bright leaves! It is important that the plant shade-tolerant - it makes it a popular choice for amateur gardeners. Ktenanty leaves, "as her hands" (in the words of my girlfriend), slightly raised up in the evening, and slightly lowered down in the morning. I wish you success in your care, saving and increasing leaf-palms ktenanty that will please you and your loved ones.
