Another type of anemone, breeding mainly tuberous rhizome segments. Pictures with these anemones usually amaze novice gardeners. And, alas, it was not very successful after getting acquainted with them, often draws conclusions about the terrible capriciousness of anemone in general.
But first - think about the merits of this species. Anemone castellated - acknowledged queen of all kinds of anemones. It has the largest (up to 8 cm in diameter) and bright flowers of various colors and shades (blue, white, red, pink, crimson). Very spectacular double its forms. But the dignity of crown anemones end.
The fact that this kind comes from the Mediterranean, but because in the middle zone winters extremely unstable and blooms quite modest. If the south of its bushes reach a height of 45 cm, then we do not exceed 15-20 cm.
Sometimes this kind of anemone recommend digging for the winter, but in this case (as well as for spring planting at all) in the plant completely astray usual development cycle. Under natural conditions (for fall planting or without digging for the winter) castellated anemone blooms in late May and early June, the summer its leaves die completely, and in the early autumn bloom (though less abundant) is repeated again. When planting this spring as the anemone blooms (and somehow very inexpressive) until the middle of the summer, then begins to turn yellow and fall re-bloom coincides with the first snow and severe frosts.
And this despite the fact that the anemone castellated has the same drawback as the previous form: its tubers even after several hours of soaking germinate very poorly. But if you said you are not scared, and you do decide to try to grow these flowers, be aware that they need a sunny location, fertile soil with the addition of sand and good drainage.
